What is an Email Blacklist?
Email blacklists (also called DNSBLs or RBLs) are databases that identify IP addresses known to send spam. Mail servers check these lists to filter incoming email. If your IP is listed, your emails may be blocked or marked as spam.
Why Check Blacklists?
- Deliverability Issues: If your emails aren't reaching recipients, you might be blacklisted
- Reputation Monitoring: Regular checks help maintain your sender reputation
- Proactive Security: Detect if your server has been compromised
- New IP Validation: Check inherited IPs before sending campaigns
How to Get Delisted
- Identify why you were listed (spam complaints, compromised server, etc.)
- Fix the underlying issue
- Visit the blacklist's website and follow their removal process
- Most blacklists auto-delist after a period if no new spam is detected
Blacklist Severity Levels
High
Major blacklists used by most mail servers - immediate action needed
Medium
Moderately used blacklists - should address soon
Low
Less common blacklists - lower priority but worth monitoring
